With the exception of four yet-to-be named competitors, the field of invitees for the Alter Cup, U.S. Sailing's annual Multihull Championship, is now established. When the regatta begins in the home waters of the host Alamitos Bay Yacht Club in southern California on April 4, 20 teams will go head to head aboard identically rigged Hobie Miracle 20s.
Defending champ and four-time Alter Cup winner Randy Smyth is the odds-on favorite
this year, but he'll have plenty of competition from Tornado Class National
Champion, Robbie Daniel and Hobie 20 Continental Champion Enrique Figueroa of
Puerto Rico, among others. The field of competitors who have qualified to compete
includes:
| Dave Fortier | Area A (northeastern region) |
| Peter Cogan | Area B (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut) |
| Glenn Ross | Area C (mid Atlantic region) |
| Nigel Pitt | Area D (southeastern region) |
| Tom Tannert | Area E (eastern central region) |
| Doug Camp | Area F (south and central region) |
| Pat Porter | Area G (western region) |
| Larry Harteck | Area J (southwestern region) |
| Mike Hill | Area K (north central region) |
| Enrique Figueroa | Hobie 20 Continental Champion |
| Keith Christensen | Hobie 16 Continental Champion |
| Kirk Newkirk | Nacra 6.0 Class representative |
| Paul Richter | Prindle 19 Class representative |
| Robbie Daniel | Tornado Class National Champion |
| Phil Kinder | A-Class representative |
