"This boat has long legs," said crewmember Hervé Jan, summing up the ride from La Trinité-sur-Mer to Cadiz.

CADIZ, SPAIN — The catamaran Club Med and 11 smiling crewmembers elated with the vessel's performance reached Cadiz, Spain Sunday after a four-day delivery from La Trinité-sur-Mer, France. Light winds meant two nights motoring before Club Med picked up steady 35-knot winds, and gusts of 42 knots off the Portuguese coast Saturday night. The wind meant triple-reefed conditions and small jib and gave the cat a chance to strut her stuff. French crewman Hervé Jan reported that during his watch, Club Med averaged 29.2 knots for an hour and offered one comment that seemed to best sum up the cat's sailing potential, "This boat has long legs."
Architects Gilles Ollier and Franck Martin were also both aboard for the trip. Martin offered a bit more insight as to what it's like flying along on one of these sailing machines at night: "The night was pitch black and it felt as if we were diving into an abyss every time we overtook a wave. Phosphorescent plankton illuminated the boat's underbody, and we were leaving astern long sparkling wakes of the same color. It was magnificent!"
From Cadiz, Club Med is bound for San Salvador, Bahamas, in order to qualify for The Race, a passage scheduled to start Wednesday, June 7.
