ALAMITOS BAY, CA — After 10 races against 15 other teams, in which they never scored worse than a fifth, Southern California racers Keith Christensen and Shala Youngerman emerged from US SAILING's annual Multihull Championship as the new Alter Cup winners for 2000. Christensen, the Hobie 16 Champion, won the event by three points over Tornado sailors Robbie Daniel and Glen Ross. Third place went to Puerto Rico Hobie 16 and Tornado racers Enrique Figueroa and Pedrin Colon.
US SAILING's Multihull Championship pits the top sailors from the most popular beach catamaran classes against one another each year to determine a top multihull team.
